The practical answer

Moving Out 2 Co-op & Multiplayer

Moving Out 2 supports two to four cooperative players on one shared screen, through native online play, or in a mixed local-and-online group. The entire team shares one camera rather than using split screen. A host can add local players before inviting remote Team17 friends, so two households can form a 2+2 group without requiring four separate systems. The campaign is also fully playable by one person, and Assist Mode can reduce several sources of time or difficulty pressure.

Can you play on one screen?

Couch co-op is supported

Moving Out 2 supports players sharing one system without a split-screen presentation.

What works online?

Join remotely with 2–4 players

Friends can complete the cooperative experience online. Check the crossplay, copy, account, and subscription details below before choosing platforms.

Is there a solo option?

A solo option is available

Yes. One player can complete the campaign alone, with heavy-object handling adjusted for solo play. Co-op begins when a second player joins.

Does Moving Out 2 support crossplay?

Native online crossplay connects Steam, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch. Cross-platform players must enable Crossplay under the General settings, add one another by Team17 ID, and send invitations through the Team17 friends menu. The four-player limit counts people rather than systems, including any couch players who join from the same device.

Cross-generation support

PS4 and PS5 players can join one another online, as can Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S players. Nintendo lists the Switch version as compatible with Switch 2 with behavior consistent with the original Switch, but Moving Out 2 does not have a separate native Switch 2 edition.

PS4 and PS5

Supported. Both PlayStation versions can join through the same online crossplay system.

Xbox One and Xbox Series

Supported. Xbox cross-generation multiplayer is supported.

What your group needs before playing

How many copies does your group need?

1 per native online system

Local players sharing one system need one copy. For native online and cross-platform play, every participating system needs its own copy or licensed access, while multiple local players on that system share the same license. On Steam, Remote Play Together provides a separate streamed local-co-op option where only the host owns and runs the game; it does not use the native Team17 crossplay lobby.

Can one owner bring a guest?

No free guest version

No. Moving Out 2 has no named Friend's Pass or free native guest client. Steam Remote Play Together is a separate streaming option that lets the owner host the shared-screen mode for remote guests.

Which online memberships apply?

Console online membership

Couch co-op does not need an online subscription. Native online play requires PlayStation Plus on PlayStation, an Xbox Game Pass tier that includes console multiplayer on Xbox, or Nintendo Switch Online on Switch. Steam players need internet access but no paid platform multiplayer subscription.

Who is Moving Out 2 good for?

  • Two households combining couch and online players
  • Four-player groups on one shared screen
  • Mixed PC, PlayStation, Xbox, and Switch groups
  • Families that benefit from adjustable Assist Mode options
